place of choice
For my abstracting place assignment I have chosen to use a tattoo shop in the mansfield area. Being someone who has tattoos and piercings myself, I feel as though this will be an interesting and even a learning process for me to use this particular place. Tattoo parlors are very laid back, chaotic, and completely consumed by the creative artists that work there. I would have to say this is my main reason for choosing a parlor from the get go. Who knows, while working on this project for art 208, i might even acquire another tattoo or piercing of my own =)

George rush
My description of the Darker with The Day exhibition. April 9th was the day I went to see this exhibition of these gray scale paintings of windows. The paintings were focused on the windows themselves, not the objects in which you see through the windows. They were made with simple detail, but in a way that makes the piece look like it has grave detail. All of the window pieces were hung on the walls in separate areas to help create the illusion that they are window panes. Some of the pieces did have other objects in the picture but still focused on the window itself. The fact that the space between the pieces is as large as it is forces the viewer to really look at the surroundings and how it plays into the exhibition. The idea displayed within these pieces is to look at the window itself and what it means to focus on something that is usually just the look- through. This also shows how time is intertwined with the idea of the work. the time is clearly represented to me by the slight changes in a few of the pieces and the cast overs of shadow in the pieces. I would like to know "what exactly he was thinking when deciding to make his show about the window panes and represented time for the exhibition?" What type of emotional connection does he have to his paintings and their meaning? And does he still feel about the work as he did when starting it?

This is my found sound composition. I decided to go with the sound i captured of a toilet flushing to make my one minute sound. I found it interesting for the piece because it is a sound most people do not think about using for a project such as this. Making the final sound was loads of fun to make and gave me an idea of how much work is put into something so small. In my piece I used a lot of copying for small parts that I wanted to repeat for a sort of "dubstep" feeling. When listening to my sound for whatever reason it makes me want to use the bathroom at a bumpin night club. If I were to guess any reason why my piece makes me think of this is because of the repetition used and the small climactic drop with the added bass. The found sound project was definitely one of my favorite ones so far this year.

10 minutes of silence
This is my 10 minutes of silence writing. At first it seemed quiet and serene in this room, but after a few seconds i notice how loud this lack of noise really is. I hear birds chirping. I've never realized how much I hate the birds that fly so gracefully around my house. There are people mowing their nasty brown yards outside. I can hear the vibrations of the mower going over every blade of grass. My mom is running water for the dishes now, I can hear the steady stream of water as she gets all of it prepared. Even the simple clicking of the clock that hangs on my wall is driving me crazy. It is a slow stubborn tick that is digging at my brain scooping out all the thoughts of silence.
I never thought about how much noise should be enjoyed. Without the hectic and blaring noises of daily life, everyone would concentrate more on the little sounds. Can you imagine thinking only about those annoying and brain splitting sounds? Not me thats for sure.

Longest game ever
I decided on this checkers game for my stop animation to show my time and the boredom that pushed me to play in the first place. It was loads of fun figuring out the angle and working on the tiny little movements that are required in oder to create the motion. I would very much like to continue working with stop animation because of how happy and proud it makes me to see the final product.
